Under 16’s Report by – David Joy

UNDER 16’S WIN GRAND FINAL

Malvern 12 defeated Melbourne High School 4

After a very tight and competitive 1st quarter which was marred by a lot of turnovers we lead 2-1.
Melbourne High continued to run at us not allowing any space for us to move. Finally hitting our straps in the 2nd quarter we scored 4 goals to Melbourne High 2.

Some solid defence kept Melbourne High at bay whilst we started to generate some run in the midfield.
Half time saw us lead by 3 goals and it looked like things might start to click for us.

A great overall team effort in the 3rd brought us 3 goals and kept them to a single goal.
The final quarter had us splitting their defence again scoring 3 goals and keeping them scoreless.

Toby and Luca faced off with great spirit and endeavour all day.
Hamish, Dean, Michael, Lewis and Zac did a great job running the midfield line.
Our attack of Sammy, Dillian and Joe kept persisting and came out on top.
Our defence of James, Shorty, Corey and Darcy in goals gave a brilliant performance generating a lot of run out of defence.
Overall a very fitting way to cap off the season – undefeated and the premiers!!!!!

Toby Exton won the Association Best and Fairest with 30 votes. Congratulations Toby on an outstanding year.

Thanks to Rod Ansell again for refereeing and to Rita for scoring, typing up my reports and washing the uniforms.

We will need to practice twice as hard next year if we want to have any success.
Always remember move your feet and the ball and shoot on the ground.

Thanking you all

Coach David Joy

Under 14’s Report by – Gus Campbell

Malvern Vs Footscray.

Result – Loss 7 – 12

It was a great effort by the team in the Grand Final. Unfortunately we did not win it but we sure gave it a “Good Shot”.

We worked very hard all year and I must say we did not expect to go to a game and have Umpiring at a State League Level.
It was very rough and anything was allowed to go, contrary to how we had played all year.
We withstood this and everybody put their body on the line. We did not Shirk any issue and I am very proud of this.

Overall we had a great season remembering our aim was to be competitive.
We were very competitive and officially finished second for the year.
Also Congratulations to Darcy and Joey for their Grand Final win in under 16’s.
I know these boys quite well and believe me the decision to make them play Under16’s before our game really hurt us.

We had a pretty rough deal from the 2 Referees who had no clue of Under14 Rules but to our credit we did not whinge or complain.
I am very proud of the whole team for this as we just got on with the job. Even with a couple of minutes to go we did
not stop and to the players credit you did exactly what I asked and we finished the game off with the last 2 goals.

I hope we all had fun and as Coach I will cherish some very funny memories both on and off the Track.
It was great to see you all improve over the season.

Thanks to Con for bringing his box of tricks and Oranges each week and to Bazz and Julie for the professional scoring every week.
Thanks also to “Uncle” Al Datson for Umpiring every week. (We could have done with you in the Finals Alan!)

Thanks to all the parents who are a great enthusiastic group and thanks for bringing you sons to The Malvern Lacrosse Club.
Every player in our group had fun and improved as a Lacrosse player over the season.

As a coach I was very hard on you all and I must admit sometimes I may have been a bit hard but I was determined to
make sure that I taught you all something about the game. Just remember as you get older and better players trying to make
State teams and the like, I am sure you will come across situations and you will say to yourself “Gus told me that years ago”.

We were a success story and unfortunately we have to live with the fact that we were runners up, but we should not accept this as ok!.
We must work harder next season and although we say goodbye to Joey, Hugo and Nick K,  12 of you stay, so we have the nucleus of a good team again.

The “Holy Grail” was so close but we were just unable to grab it. It waits for us next year!. Remember everybody hurts sometime and so do I.
The Rising Stars for this week go to all the Parents for all your hard work.

TIPS for the Rest of 2010
1. Do Not Put you Lax stick in the Cupboard. Keep it out and Brick wall it at Least Twice a week.
2. Study hard now that you do not have Practice.
3. Be Proud of what you have achieved.

And for the Last time this year I Say Proudly.
