News- 2nd September 2015

Just in case you didn’t know..

Attention all Malvern members,

Grand Final Day @ Malvern this weekend!!

To make this day successful, we need as many helpers as possible to make sure everything runs smoothly for the clubs biggest day this year.

We have a spreadsheet at the clubrooms with time slots and jobs that need to be filled. If you can ‘offer’ just an hour of your time to help, the committee and the club would be very thankful. Obviously if you can put your name to more that’s awesome!

Presentation Night

Merrimu Receptions 11th September @ 7PM 1300 Dandenong rd Chadstone

Tickets will be $80 and available behind the bar.

This will include canapés on arrival a 3 course meal (entree, main, desert)

5 Hours of Beer, Wine & Soft drink

Get your ticket from behind the bar before they sell out.

Presentation night final date for Tickets and payment is Thursday 4th September.

If you have confirmed but are yet to pay, can you do so ASAP as this will ease the stress load immensely!!

Calling All Medical Personnel !

As we are hosting Grand Final day it would be helpful to know if we have any ‘medical staff’ on hand to possibly assist (heaven forbid) in the case of an emergency GF day.

If you are in this line of work or have a First aid certificate, could you please register with Gus or someone behind the bar prior to the event.

Junior presentation day is now Sunday 13th at 11am.

Yes that is correct! Previously we had stated that this was going to be the day after Grand Final.  Well…that’s also “Fathers Day!” Doh!

So as to make sure that everyone gets the chance to spoil their Dad rotten, we have bumped it back to be a week later.

This will also be beneficial to get the clubroom in to some shape or form after the whole day hosting Grand Finals the day before!

Match Report

State League

Preliminary Final

Footscray loss 14 to 8

11893772_10205755803107994_4097260637562689087_o[1]Disappointing loss but first full credit to a Footscray outfit that showed what is required to win big finals, they where simply harder, tougher and wanted it more, we basically didn’t fire on any level and was really difficult to find a clear winner for Malvern on the day.

I guess part of being flat on the day is the result of finishing 3rd and needing to win 3 big games in 3 weeks which was a result of poor regular season games like the 7 to 5 win against second last M.C.C a reflection, all other top 4 sides piled on the score against them and that not only hurt our percentage and our final ladder position but showed a clear lack of killer instinct in the group in 2015.

The younger players, Tim Graham, Rowan Anglicas, Darcy Campbell, Nic Chapman, and the Exton brothers aside I have been involved with most of these players now for several years and we have built from second last in 2009 to a grand final in 2012 and a preliminary final again in 2015 but I believe for personal reasons my time coaching at Malvern has come to an end and as a result this will be my final report.

My personal thanks to the club for the honour of being State League coach at our prestigious club and Gary Campbell for his belief in me since 1987, l wish the 2016 Malvern coach who ever that is a terrific and hopefully happy journey ahead.

Regards,

Glenn Meredith

U17 V Footscray

Win 9 – 6
The guys had a bit of a reality check last week when we lost the ‘semi’ and the tempo of this weeks game, was up!…..Good!
Patience in attack and denying their ‘main scorer’ with tagging roles from 2 of our runners was the key.

The game was still a steady flow from both teams but I think the turning point was when Thomas scored his 2nd goal in the 4th, that they must have known….were not slowing down!
Knowing that Malvern had ‘too many avenues’ to go through was the breaking point for the Footscray players.
As hard as they fought I think our ‘depth’ was too hard to cover.

Some of the ‘concrete boots’ need to be thrown out to avoid the opposition intercepting passes for easy turnovers.
We’ll work on that tomorrow night.

Grand Final against Williamstown this Saturday, so if you’re RED & BLACK…
I’d love you to be there to support the guys.
